White Hawk Retreat

Boulder, CO
Having recently moved into their new home, this couple was ready to shape a backyard that truly felt like their own. With the husband long retired and the wife easing into a more flexible pace at work, they were looking for a peaceful space that matched their rhythm—something calm, low-maintenance, and personal.
They imagined quiet mornings outdoors, simple gatherings with close friends, and a setting that brought ease to everyday life. We listened closely, guiding them through a design that honored their vision and lifestyle. The result is a warm, welcoming retreat—thoughtfully crafted to feel effortless, elegant, and unmistakably theirs.
This landscape didn’t start from scratch—it started with potential. The homeowners already had beautiful flagstone patios on either side of the house, but the backyard in between felt disjointed and underutilized.
We designed a landscape that gently connected the two patios, unifying the space with intentional flow, native plantings, and soft transitions. The layout balances openness and intimacy—giving the couple room to relax, entertain, and enjoy their surroundings without the upkeep.
Throughout the process, we stayed in close communication, ensuring every detail reflected their vision. From material choices to planting arrangements, every element was designed to feel natural, timeless, and soothing.
To start, we carefully studied the existing flagstone patios and how they interacted with the yard. Our goal was to create a natural sense of flow without making the space feel over-designed. We introduced gentle curves and organic planting beds to soften the transitions and draw the eye across the property.
Selecting the right materials was just as important. We chose complementary stonework, mulch, and plantings that matched the existing hardscape while bringing new texture and warmth to the landscape.
Drainage and irrigation were updated to support plant health and minimize maintenance, and we prioritized native, water-wise species that thrive in Colorado’s climate.
Throughout the build, we worked with care—protecting existing patio and refining grading. The result is a space that feels effortless but was thoughtfully shaped in every sense.
What once felt disjointed is now seamlessly connected. The yard flows naturally from one space to the next—welcoming, open, and calm. Every element serves a purpose: the restored flagstone patio, the timber walkway that brings the yard together, the soft lighting, and the personalized touches for both homeowners and Coco.
This isn’t just a finished project—it’s a retreat that fits their lifestyle and brings joy to everyday moments. Morning coffee. Evening strolls. Quiet afternoons in the garden. It all feels easy now. And unmistakably theirs.
